Trusted Lawn Fertilization & Weed Control Services
Targeted treatments to strengthen your grass, eliminate stubborn weeds, and keep your lawn healthy all season long
A greener, thicker lawn — and far fewer weeds to deal with.
Mowing keeps your lawn looking tidy, but it's fertilization and weed control that determine how healthy, dense, and vibrant your grass actually is. Utah County's alkaline soils and wide seasonal temperature swings create unique challenges that generic big-box fertilizers simply aren't designed for. A program that works great in the Southeast won't deliver the same results at 4,500 feet in Provo or Eagle Mountain.
Summit Lawn Care builds customized fertilization and weed control programs around Utah County's specific soil chemistry, climate, and grass varieties. We apply the right products at the right times throughout the season — so your lawn gets what it needs when it needs it, and weeds don't get a foothold in the first place.

A complete program, applied at the right time every time.
Pre-Emergent Weed Control
The most effective way to deal with weeds is to stop them before they ever break the surface. Pre-emergent herbicide creates a barrier in the soil that prevents weed seeds from germinating — targeting common Utah County troublemakers like crabgrass, spurge, and annual bluegrass before they have a chance to establish.
Timing is everything with pre-emergent applications. Apply too early and it breaks down before weed seeds germinate. Apply too late and the weeds are already up. Our team monitors soil temperatures across the valley — which vary from Spanish Fork to Lehi — and applies pre-emergent at precisely the right window for maximum effectiveness.

Post-Emergent Weed Control
Even the best pre-emergent program doesn't catch everything. Broadleaf weeds like dandelions, clover, bindweed, and thistle can pop up throughout the season — especially in thinner areas of your lawn where grass density isn't high enough to crowd them out. Our post-emergent treatments target these actively growing weeds directly, killing them at the root without harming your grass.
We use selective herbicides that are formulated to target broadleaf weeds while leaving your cool-season turf unaffected. For stubborn or recurring weed problems common in Utah County's clay soils, we'll identify the weed species and recommend a targeted treatment plan rather than just spraying and hoping for the best.
Seasonal Fertilization Program
Your lawn's nutritional needs change dramatically throughout the year. A properly timed multi-step fertilization program delivers the right nutrient ratios at each stage of the growing season — high nitrogen in spring to fuel green-up and growth, balanced summer formulas to support heat tolerance, and a phosphorus-rich fall application to strengthen roots and build carbohydrate reserves heading into winter.
Utah County's alkaline soils often lock up key nutrients like iron and manganese, leaving lawns looking pale or yellowish even when fertilized. Our program accounts for these deficiencies with targeted micronutrient applications alongside standard NPK fertilization — so your lawn actually gets the benefit of what we put down, rather than having it tied up in the soil.
Winterization Treatment
The last fertilizer application of the year is one of the most important ones. A properly formulated winterization treatment — applied in late October or early November before the ground freezes — feeds your lawn's root system through the dormant season and sets it up for a faster, more vigorous green-up the following spring.
Skipping winterization is one of the most common mistakes Utah County homeowners make with their lawn care programs. Lawns that receive a proper late-season feeding consistently outperform untreated lawns the following spring, coming out of dormancy earlier, greening up more evenly, and showing better overall density throughout the season.

Iron & Micronutrient Treatments
One of the most common complaints we hear from Utah County homeowners is that their lawn looks yellow or washed out despite regular watering and fertilizing. In most cases, the culprit isn't a lack of nitrogen — it's iron chlorosis, a condition caused by Utah's high-pH soils preventing grass from absorbing the iron it needs to produce chlorophyll.
Our liquid iron and micronutrient treatments deliver iron and other trace elements directly to the plant in a form that bypasses the soil pH problem entirely. The results are visible within days — a noticeably deeper, richer green color that lasts throughout the treatment cycle. For lawns in Saratoga Springs, Eagle Mountain, and other communities built on heavily alkaline soil, iron treatments can be genuinely transformative.

- How many treatments are included in a full seasonal program?
A typical full-season program for Utah County lawns includes five to six applications spread from early spring through late fall — a pre-emergent in spring, a post-emergent and fertilizer application in late spring, a summer feeding, a late-summer weed touch-up, and a fall fertilizer and winterization treatment. Iron applications can be added as needed throughout the season.
- Is it safe for my kids and pets after treatment?
Yes — once the treatment has dried, typically within one to two hours depending on temperature and humidity, your lawn is safe for kids and pets. We’ll let you know the recommended re-entry time for each specific product we apply, and we’re always happy to answer questions about what we’re using and why.
- Why does my Utah lawn look yellow even when I fertilize regularly?
This is extremely common across Utah County and is almost always caused by iron chlorosis — a condition where high soil pH prevents your grass from absorbing iron even when it’s present in the soil. Standard fertilizers don’t solve this problem. Liquid iron applications bypass the soil chemistry issue and deliver iron directly to the plant, restoring that deep green color quickly and effectively.
- Can you treat my lawn if I'm already using another fertilizer program?
Yes, though we’d want to know what products have already been applied and when before putting together your program. Overlapping certain herbicides or applying fertilizer too close together can stress the lawn or reduce effectiveness. We’ll work with whatever your starting point is and build a program from there.
- What areas of Utah County do you serve?
We provide fertilization and weed control services throughout Utah County, including Provo, Orem, Lehi, Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Spanish Fork, Springville, Mapleton, and Payson. Give us a call if you’re not sure whether we cover your neighborhood.
